Appointments as Arbitrator

Mr Shackleton has served as chair, sole arbitrator and party-appointed arbitrator on more than 20 arbitral tribunals, including ad hoc proceedings and arbitrations administered by the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA).

Mr Shackleton accepts appointments as arbitrator in international commercial, construction and investment disputes.

  • Chair of a tribunal concerned with liability of a sovereign European State in respect of a telecoms sales, licensing and joint venture project
  • Chair of a tribunal concerned with the design and construction of a glass factory
  • Sole arbitrator in a bilingual arbitration (French and English) between a communications company and a cable manufacturer arising out of a construction project
  • Sole arbitrator in a dispute concerning a commodities transaction
  • Chair of a tribunal concerned with a disputed guarantee given by a State entity to a bank to cover the performance of an investment vehicle in another State in relation to a natural resources distribution concession and allegations of expropriation
  • Sole arbitrator in an arbitration brought against a sovereign Caribbean State by a foreign investor concerning allegations of expropriation of a luxury hotel project
  • Party-appointed arbitrator in a dispute involving a commodities transaction
  • Sole arbitrator in a dispute concerning use of patented communications technology and know-how following a failed joint venture and the effects of a confidentiality agreement
